In June 2026, China’s medical device industry advanced across four primary tracks: the refinement of regulatory frameworks, the implementation of compliance structures for frontier sectors, concentrated approvals for high-end innovative devices and accelerating industry integration.

Regulators bridged gaps by establishing specific review standards for brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and medical AI, while unifying full-lifecycle rules for product classification management. The innovative review channel continued to yield significant outcomes, with several global and domestic firsts in Class III high-value devices receiving marketing approval. Simultaneously, capital market transactions remained highly active. Compounded by the ongoing national medical equipment upgrade initiative, the import substitution process for domestic high-end medical devices continues to accelerate.

1. Regulatory & Compliance Dynamics

China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) advanced fine-grained, tiered governance this month while addressing regulatory vacuums in cutting-edge fields. This has formed a regulatory landscape defined by “standardized general rules, strict controls on high-risk devices, and specialized standards for innovative tracks.”
